You want your bank statements in Quicken, and what you have is a folder of PDFs. Quicken imports bank transactions one way: a Web Connect file, which means QFX. Our converter reads any bank's PDF statement, extracts every transaction, and produces a Quicken-ready QFX file in minutes.
PDFs are usually where this problem starts. Banks that dropped Quicken connectivity still issue monthly PDF statements, and statements older than the bank's download window exist only as PDFs. Everything Quicken needs is on those pages; it just isn't in a format Quicken can read.
This page explains what a QFX file is, why Quicken accepts nothing else, and how to automate the conversion. Already holding a CSV export instead? See our CSV to QFX converter .
Why Getting PDF Statements Into Quicken Is Hard
Two format walls stand between your statements and your Quicken register:
PDFs resist extraction
Statements are laid out for reading and printing. Tables, multi-page runs, and scanned pages defeat copy-paste.
Quicken only imports QFX
Quicken Classic has no CSV or PDF import for bank transactions. Web Connect (.QFX) is the only door in.
Generic OFX gets rejected
QFX is Intuit's branded OFX variant with a bank identifier Quicken validates. Renaming an .ofx file to .qfx almost never works.
Every bank formats differently
Statement layouts, date conventions, and column structures vary by bank, so template-based extraction breaks constantly.
The data is all there on the page. It just needs to be read, structured, and packaged the way Quicken expects.
Works With Statements From Any Bank
Ledger Tome's AI-powered converter reads bank and credit card statements from:
US Banks
Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citibank, Capital One, US Bank, PNC Bank, Truist, Ally, Discover
Credit Unions & Regional Banks
Often the first to drop Quicken connectivity; any statement layout works, no templates needed
International Banks
HSBC, Barclays, Santander, and 100+ banks worldwide
Don't see your bank? The AI adapts to any statement layout automatically.
What Is a QFX File?
A QFX file is Quicken's Web Connect format: Intuit's branded variant of the open OFX standard, and the only file type modern Quicken imports for bank transactions.
QFX vs QIF: older Quicken versions (2004 and earlier) imported QIF files, and plenty of tutorials online still point there. Modern Quicken does not. If you're on a current version of Quicken Classic, QFX is the format you need; for legacy tools that still want QIF, see our PDF to QIF converter .
Using QuickBooks instead of Quicken? You want a QBO file: see our PDF to QuickBooks converter .
Key characteristics of a proper QFX file:

Common Ways to Get PDF Statements Into Quicken
Manual Entry
Read the PDF, type each transaction into the register. Accurate only with heavy double-checking, and brutal for a year of statements.
Bank QFX Download
Works if your bank still offers Web Connect and the period is recent. Historical statements and dropped-support banks are exactly where this fails.
PDF to CSV, Then Fight the Format
Extract to CSV with a generic tool, then discover Quicken doesn't import CSV either. You've moved the problem, not solved it.
Automated PDF to QFX Conversion
Reads the PDF directly, extracts every transaction with AI, and generates a valid Web Connect file Quicken imports natively. Free to start.
PDF to QFX: Method Comparison
| Method | Time Required | Accuracy | Best For | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manual entry | 30-60 minutes per statement | 70-80% (error-prone) | A handful of transactions | Free |
| Bank QFX download | Minutes | High | Recent periods at supporting banks | Free (if available) |
| PDF to CSV first | 20-40 minutes | Dead end (Quicken rejects CSV) | Nothing | Free |
| Ledger Tome | Under a minute | 99%+ | Any statement, any bank, any period | Free to start |
Why automated conversion wins: one step from the statement you have to the file Quicken wants.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
Quicken rejects the file on import
Usually an unrecognized bank identifier. Ledger Tome resolves it from your bank's name automatically; if your institution isn't recognized, enter its FID manually in the export dialog before downloading.
Scanned statement with poor quality
OCR handles most scans, but for best results use at least 300 DPI with clearly readable text.
Transactions went to the wrong account
Quicken asks which account to link on first import. If you picked the wrong one, delete the imported transactions and re-import against the correct account.
Statement includes non-transaction pages
Upload the full PDF. The converter extracts only transaction data and ignores promotional pages and disclaimers.
Need a different format
Have a CSV instead? Use CSV to QFX . On QuickBooks? Use Bank Statement to QuickBooks .
Summary
Quicken imports bank transactions only through Web Connect QFX files, and for many accounts the PDF statement is the only record you can get. Manual entry doesn't scale and generic PDF extraction leaves you with a CSV Quicken rejects. Automated conversion reads the statement directly and produces the exact file Quicken is built to import.
If you have PDF statements waiting to get into Quicken, Ledger Tome converts them in minutes.
